Szanowni Goście, Drodzy Przyjaciele!

W imieniu Polskiego Związku Brydża Sportowego i Komitetu Organizacyjnego mam ogromny zaszczyt powitać Państwa na ceremonii otwarcia World Bridge Series 2022. To równocześnie niesamowita satysfakcja, że spotykamy się w Polsce, w przepięknym Wrocławiu. W ostatnim półwieczu odbyło się u nas wiele międzynarodowych imprez w brydżu sportowym, także najwyższej rangi – jak choćby, zorganizowane w tej same co dziś Hali Stulecia, World Bridge Games 2016. Jednak ta, którą dziś inaugurujemy, zapowiada się na największą w Polsce. I to nie tylko w historii ukochanej przez nas gry, ale także sportu nad Wisłą i Odrą w ogóle. Bowiem bodaj nigdy, w ponad stuletniej historii nowożytnego sportu w naszym kraju, nie organizowaliśmy mistrzostw świata z udziałem blisko/ponad tysiąca zawodników z blisko stu / ponad pięćdziesięciu krajów.

Przeprowadzenie tak gigantycznego wydarzenia nie byłoby oczywiście możliwe bez wsparcia państwa polskiego, miasta, regionu i pozostałych sponsorów. Objęcie mistrzostw Patronatem Honorowym Prezydenta Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej Andrzeja Dudy jest dla nas wielkim zaszczytem. A fundusze, przekazane przez Miasto Wrocław, Ministerstwo Sportu i Turystyki, Dolny Śląsk raz KGHM i Objectivity zabezpieczają zorganizowanie imprezy na odpowiednim poziomie. Dziękujemy za to szczególnie p.p. Mam niezachwianą pewność, że dysponujący środkami od naszych partnerów Komitet Organizacyjny mistrzostw, z nomen omen mistrzem świata Stanisławem Gołębiowskim na czele, wzorowo zaplanował, a teraz przeprowadzi imprezę, która zakończy się sukcesem pod każdym względem. Dziękuję „Bubu” i jego ludziom za już wykonane prace, ale teraz przed nami najważniejszy wysiłek.

Dziękuję także za zaufanie ze strony Światowej Federacji Brydża, na czele z jej prezydentem, będącym od dekad wypróbowanym przyjacielem Polski i Polaków, panem Gianarrigo Roną. Oczywiście od strony organizacyjnej to zaufanie nie jest obarczone jakimś specjalnym ryzykiem, gdyż PZBS i Wrocław wielokrotnie udowodnili, że umieją przeprowadzić nawet te najważniejsze imprezy brydżowe. Natomiast sytuacja międzynarodowa, w jakiej znalazł się świat, mogła budzić wątpliwości co do miejsca rozegrania World Bridge Series. Chcę bardzo mocno wszelkie te wątpliwości rozwiać: w naszym kraju jest bezpiecznie, a Polacy są w całym świecie znani ze swej gościnności, której wyraz dali choćby ostatnio wobec milionów uchodźców z zaatakowanej przez Rosję Ukrainy. I właśnie teraz każdy przyzwoity człowiek powinien pokazać, że życie – także to sportowe – toczy się normalnie, wbrew obłędnej wojennej agresji tuż za naszą granicą. W Polsce jest bezpiecznie – także dzięki sile międzynarodowej solidarności...

Życzę zatem wszystkim dobrej gry, a po odejściu od stolików – miłych, niezapomnianych chwil w jednym z naszych najpiękniejszych miast. I niech wygrywają najlepsi! A że będą wśród nich reprezentanci Polski, to nie ma co do tego wątpliwości, bo od pół wieku zdobywają przecież medale na niemal każdej mistrzowskiej imprezie w brydżu sportowym

Dear Guests, Dear Friends!

On behalf of the Polish Bridge Union and the Organizing Committee, it is my great honor to welcome you to the opening ceremony of the World Bridge Series 2022. It is at the same time an incredible satisfaction that we meet in Poland, in the beautiful city of Wroclaw. In the last half-century, we have hosted many international events in sports bridge, including of the highest rank - such as, organized in the same Centennial Hall as today, the World Bridge Games 2016. However, the one we are inaugurating today promises to be the largest in Poland. And not only in the history of our beloved game, but also in the history of sports on the Vistula and Odra rivers in general. For perhaps never, in the more than one hundred years of modern sports history in our country, have we organized a world championship with the participation of nearly/over a thousand players from nearly a hundred/over fifty countries.

Holding such a gigantic event would not be possible, of course, without the support of the Polish state, the city, the region and other sponsors. Taking the championship under the Honorary Patronage of the President of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Duda is a great honor for us. And the funds, provided by the City of Wroclaw, the Ministry of Sport and Tourism, Lower Silesia and KGHM and Objectivity secure the organization of the event at the appropriate level. We would like to thank especially Mr. I have unwavering confidence that the organizing committee of the championship, with funds from our partners, headed by the nomen omen world champion Stanislaw Golębiowski, has exemplarily planned and will now carry out an event that will be successful in every way. I thank "Bubu" and his people for the work already done, but now the most important effort lies ahead.

Thank you also for the trust of the World Bridge Federation, headed by its president, who is a tried and tested friend of Poland and Poles for decades, Mr. Gianarrigo Rona. Of course, from the organizational point of view, this trust is not fraught with any special risk, as PZBS and Wrocław have repeatedly proven that they know how to conduct even the most important bridge events. On the other hand, the international situation in which the world found itself could have raised doubts about where the World Bridge Series would be played. I want to very strongly dispel any such doubts: it is safe in our country, and Poles are known throughout the world for their hospitality, which they have demonstrated, for example, recently towards the millions of refugees from the Ukraine attacked by Russia. And right now every decent person should show that life - including sports life - is going on normally, against the insane war aggression just across our border. It is safe in Poland - also thanks to the strength of international solidarity....

So I wish everyone a good game, and after leaving the tables - nice, unforgettable moments in one of our most beautiful cities. And may the best win! And that there will be representatives of Poland among them, there is no doubt about it, after all, for half a century they have been winning medals at almost every championship event in sports bridge.
